When thinking of life lessons for Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, one can think of what Jon went through in chapter 14 and 15 when he tried to climb Devils Thumb. A life lesson from this situation that can be interpreted is before going on a journey, the actions you make can and will affect others. This is present in the situation with Chris. Chris didn't talk to his parents before leaving for his journey and they were physically and mentally distraught when they found out about Chris’ death. Another life lesson that can be apparent by these chapters is no matter where you go think and prepare for the worst. This is true because Jon Krakauer underestimated Devils Thumb and the unpredictable weather and he almost got caught in the middle of a blizzard and it could have kept him from his tent because he didn’t think the weather would change. Additionally, he didn’t have the proper supplies to climb the mountain on the first attempt and he needed to have a supply drop. Finally, even though Chris failed his trip and Jon Krakauer succeeded they made the same mistakes but it just happened that Chris’ mistakes were in a place of isolation and in a situation of more severe life or death given the circumstances. Overall, Chris and Jon did the same thing but it comes down to Jon succeeded and Chris did not.
